How to do Child’s Pose | Plus a Guided Yoga Sequence

In today’s video I am going to talk about one of the most basic yoga poses, child’s pose also known as Balasana. I’ll also take you through a yoga sequence where we will incorporate child’s pose with other yoga poses.

Balasana is a great stretch for the spine and the shape of the pose replicates this idea of curling up into a ball. When life gets too much we can take comfort in child’s pose which allows ourselves a moment to close of the external world to come into ourselves and into the heart centre.

Child’s pose also gives us the opportunity to return to that space of innocence and purity where we can take off all the layers that we’ve attached onto ourselves over the years to find the essence of who we are.

This process allows to connect to our inner child and this may happen at a conscious level or a sub conscious level. As a child we are at our most vulnerable and our brain is developing according to the world around us. Certain things may happen in our childhood which can cause us to create habits, thoughts and patterns which may adversely affect us in adulthood.

So when we come into childs pose we give ourselves the opportunity to heal, to let go of anything that does not serve us.

When we are in that ball shape its like we are a child, we’re in the shape of a foetus. Then we come into the other yoga poses to open ourselves up again to the world. We then have a fresh new opportunity to grow.

So what may seem a very simple pose is actually working at a deep intrinsic level.

In today’s practice part of the video I will show you various different way that you can rest in child’s pose. The variations will also go through different support props that will aid you especially if you have tight ankles, knees and hips. So ensure you have a soft blanket, pillow and bolster if you have one to hand. If you don’t have a bolster you can use two or three cushions instead.

I hope this information has given you clarity about the importance of child’s pose in our practice. Please do share this video with your friends and family and anyone else who may find it of interest. Finally please subscribe if you haven’t done already so that you are notified of future videos.
