My Christmas Survival Guide

With less than two weeks to go until Christmas I can already feel the frantic energy that can arise at this time of year. Obviously there is so much to enjoy too and in order to enjoy the festivities and not get overwhelmed with the preparations I wanted to remind you (and myself) of all of those little things we can do to keep grounded and connected to ourselves.

Over the last few weeks in my class we have been discussing these practices and therefore I thought it would be a handy blog to write and refer to over the next few weeks. These practices will all be something you are familiar with and it’s always useful to hear them again. Also now is a really significant time to put them into practice in order to really enjoy Christmas and the New Year celebrations.

Ground your Energy

Practice a technique in the morning that connects you to yourself. This could be yoga, meditation, a breathing exercise or for those who have been to my class you can also practice the grounding exercises that we have been working on which involves the tree meditation and the golden ball of light.

This will serve to keep you grounded in your body and in your own truth so that you don’t get swayed by worry or anxiety. The golden ball of light will also work on protecting your space and the sacred inner work that you have done on yourself.

Say No

Say no to that extra glass of wine or that piece of Christmas cake which you know will push you over the edge! Often we know our limits and what our body feels comfortable with however due to peer pressure or the lure of temptation we succumb and then regret it afterwards.

Also remember saying no is a way to honour your body and yourself. And if you still give in… then drink the wine, eat the cake and please don’t beat yourself up about it!

Implement Boundaries

Put into place boundaries or honour the boundaries you have already instilled. Christmas time is a great time to be with friends and family. However if being around certain people doesn’t feel good then listen to yourself and take space or at least limit your time with those people.

Practice Present Moment Awareness

If your mind is being swayed by worry or anxiety this is often a sign that we have become ungrounded and moved away from the present moment. This then leads to a disconnection from our true self. Therefore remember to always come to the breath. A breathing technique or simply a few deep breaths will bring you back into yourself and into the moment.

When we are fully in the present moment we can enjoy the experience that Christmas time offers. Being present also allows us to appreciate this time for celebration and joy so that when we return to our day to day lives in January we can feel satisfied. So often January can arrive and it feels like the Christmas time ‘flew’ by however when we appreciate the moment by being present and connected we can move into January feeling refreshed.

On this note if you are looking for something to read over the Christmas time I highly recommend ‘The Power of Now’ by Eckhart Tolle.

I hope these practices will help you to have an amazing Christmas and New Year which you will remember for years to come. Also on a final note this time of year is also a great time to reflect on all that you have experienced and achieved over the last year. As well as setting positive intentions for the year ahead. So whenever you get a moment grab your journal and let’s release 2019 and embrace 2020 with a clear mind and heart.

Wishing you and your families a happy and peaceful Christmas and New Year!

Lots of love,

Jaina x
